People watch 1 billion hours of YouTube videos DAILY

Real Quick…

YouTube is a great way to make tons of money. Adsense, sponsorships, courses, and merch are all ways successful YouTubers make a full time income.

Today I’ll be sharing how I grew a YouTube channel from 0 views, 0 minutes of watchtime, and 0 subscribers to 16,080 views, 110,334 minutes , and 128 subscribers in just 30 days.

My stats 30 days into my channel

Disclaimer: I have nearly 5 years of experience on YouTube. These numbers I’m sharing are the result of hours upons hours of studying YouTube.

(By the way, if you have any questions, just post a comment. I answer every single one!)

3. Upload a Video Every Day

Maybe the most valuable of my three tips, uploading every day is a must for two reasons.

Reason 1 — YouTube is like the Lottery

When you start out your YouTube channel, nobody knows who you are.

Nobody.

Thus, you need to post as much as you can to make it possible for viewers to discover your channel.

Think of it as a lottery. If you are 1 of 10 people who bought tickets to win a lottery, you have a 1 in 10 chance (10%) of winning that lottery. However, if you buy 10 tickets, now you have a 10 in 20 chance (50%) of winning that lottery.

The more videos you upload, the better chance you have of growing an audience.

Reasons 2 — More Videos = Happy YouTube

This second reason goes hand-in-hand with the first one.

When you’re starting out your channel, YouTube has NO IDEA what your videos are about! They don’t know who would like your videos or whether your videos are funny or serious, education or entertainment.

In order for YouTube’s algorithm to start pushing your videos to viewers, it needs to gather data from your videos to understand what your videos are about. The more videos you post, the more data it has to target a specific audience.

The more videos you post, the more data YouTube has.

2. Look at the Data

So you’ve posted a bunch of content. What now?

For every single video you make, YouTube will give you data. (how many impressions, CTR, watch time, etc…) With all this data available it is easy to figure out which videos perform well and which perform poorly.

After posting for a week, I took a look at my analytics. Here’s what I found:

  1. A certain type of video did better than the others
  2. A certain type of thumbnail got clicked on more than others
  3. Videos with longer intros had shorter watch time

What did I do? I started posting videos:

  1. Similar to the video that performed better
  2. With thumbnails that got clicked on more
  3. With very short intros (~2–6 seconds)

As you can see, I looked at my data and acted on it. I can’t emphasize this enough. If you want your channel to grow quickly, you have to look at your analytics.

I looked at my data and acted on it.

1. Title + Thumbnail + View Duration

As you might see by now, all three of these points overlap in some way. This third point is simply what you put your main focus on.

High View Duration Comes From High-Quality Videos

If your videos suck, your channel won’t grow.

How do you know if your videos suck? Check your View Duration in your analytics!

✅ If your view duration is 50% or higher, you’ve got a banger of a video! 🔥

❎ If your view duration is less than 50%, you have work to do. 💀

YouTube is great because you can see exactly where viewers drop off during your videos.

After analyzing my videos, I figured out how to increase my view duration by nearly 70%.

Aim for a view duration of 50% or higher!

Views Comes From Titles + Thumbnails

To have view duration of any length, you need to have actual viewers. This is where the Title and Thumbnail come into play.

While I’m not going to teach you how to make a good thumbnail and title (there are plenty of videos on YouTube on how to do that), I will be explaining what I look for in a thumbnail and title.

For me, Thumbnails have to be:

  1. Bright
  2. Interesting
  3. Easy to Understand
  4. Text (If any) must be easy to read and less than 5 words!

In addition, Titles must be:

  1. Captivating // Spark interest in the viewer
  2. Easy to understand // Don’t use big words
  3. Less than 50 words // Must be a quick read
