As travel and communication get easier, more Americans are opting to save up money and move to parts of the world where they can live in luxury for a fraction of the price they can in the United States. In many cases, people find jobs that can be done remotely, and can continue making a US wage while living abroad.

Mexico used to be the go-to country for Americans looking to retire in style, but these days, resorts in Mexico cost the same as in the US. But what about Europe?

While countries like the United Kingdom, France, and the Scandinavian nations can be very expensive to live in, there are a lot of countries in Europe that you can live very comfortably in for cheap! Here, we examine twelve of the cheapest countries to move to in Europe.

12. Lithuania

Lithuania is probably the cheapest and most Western-friendly nation to move to in the Baltic region of Europe. They speak great English and have reliable transportation. The only problem is that establishing residency can be very difficult. Dining prices resemble that of a small town in America, with about $3 for a beer and $12 for 3-course lunch. An apartment in downtown Vilnius will cost you about $500.

11. Poland
