10 Reasons You Shouldn’t Move to Vermont

Although Vermont is a beautiful state with an array of gorgeous mountains, wetlands, and hiking trails, there is a dark side to this state. After doing hours of research, I’ve discovered several things that will most likely change your mind about moving to Vermont.

1. Muddy Season

Annually, there is a “muddy season” as the snow melts in the spring. Because of this season, you will find keeping your stuff clean a nightmare, especially if you want to be outdoors. Whenever you want to go outside, you will have to wear boots, or risk destroying your shoes and having wet, dirty socks. Also, anything that comes in contact with the outdoors — particularly cars and clothes — is certain to become caked with mud.

Along with these setbacks, official Vermonter groups such as the Green Mountain Club actually advise people not to hike on trails during this season. With all the mud, it’s easy to slip and fall, which can become a serious hazard on steep hills and woodland trails. Because of this, the muddy season can definitely be a setback if you love springtime hiking.
